Who am I?
Just an ordinary human being, with over 20 years of nutrition knowledge, who got certified to pursue my passion for helping others to take charge of their own health.
My passion for health started over 20 years ago when my children were still toddlers. Like most people, I had only basic knowledge about health, pretty much followed what was recommended and thought doctors knew about nutrition. I couldn't have been more wrong!
Both my children were breastfed and when I weaned my youngest onto solids, with the usual fruit & vegetable purees, together with fromage frais, I never realised that he would develop recurring ear infections and eczema. Back in the mid '90s, there was no Google and I put my faith in doctors. Who put him on steroid creams and antibiotics. When these failed to make a difference, I grew frustrated.
I was fortunate to meet naturopath, Robin Needes, author of You Don't have to Feel Unwell & Become a Radiant Woman : Hormones in Harmony, who helped establish that he was intolerant to dairy, wheat & sugar.
Since following her advice, his ear infections and eczema cleared up. And since that time, I have devoured volumes of books on natural health and doing as much research as possible on how "we are what we eat".
I wasn't always vegan and was no stranger to allergies and stress-related eczema. I was a social smoker for a short time, binge drank alcohol too often, loved fried food and had a hankering for crisps (or potato chips).
Even though I ate more fruit and veg compared to the majority, I never felt 100% vibrant, healthy or energetic.
It was only when I went fully vegan, cut out caffeine, alcohol & practiced eating only when I needed to, did things start to change for me. No more hot flushes, I became physically stronger and have way more energy compared to when I was in my 30's & 40's.
Understanding how our body works and interpreting the signals or messages our bodies give us, will help us to give our bodies what it needs to function at its optimal level.
We are bombarded with so much conflicting information online nowadays about health, that it can get very frustrating to know what is actually good for us! Macros or micros? Fat or no fat? Is counting calories necessary? What about the sugar in fruit? This is where I come in.
I am fully certified in nutrition, however I specialise in Vegan Nutrition & Raw Vegan Nutrition.
